Valley Health Foundation Partners with the SCVH Medical Staff Leaders on the Clinician Wellness Task Force

In 2022, the Medical Staff of Santa Clara Valley Healthcare initiated a Clinician Wellness Task Force to address the deepening crisis of burnout among clinicians. Burnout among clinicians is a national problem. It is defined by the World Health Organization as chronic workplace stress where the work exceeds the adaptive capacity of the individual and whose symptoms include exhaustion, cynicism or depersonalization, and low sense of professional efficacy. According to an article published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 2022, the rates of clinician burnout went from 40% pre-pandemic to 60% during the pandemic and has not improved.

Leaders from Valley Health Foundation have partnered with the Clinician Wellness Task Force to support and advocate for systems transformation so that patients are cared for by a health workforce that is thriving in an environment that fosters clinicians’ humanity and purpose, as they improve population health, enhance the care experience, improve value, and advance health equity.

In partnership with this Clinician Wellness Task Force, Valley Health Foundation is excited to announce its Clinician Celebration Program honoring physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (PA, NP, CRNA) who have demonstrated exceptional contributions to the field of medicine and commitment to the mission of Santa Clara Valley Healthcare. Recipients will be recognized in the areas of clinical excellence, community service, humanism and uniqueness, commitment to health equity and inclusivity in the healthcare system, and/or patient advocacy. This new award program will be rolled out in June 2023.
